Cycle to Work Day is back!

Now in its ninth year, Cycle to Work Day is the UK’s leading one-day commuting event.

Join in on Thursday 5th August as we get a much-needed boost through cycling. The idea is simple – we’re celebrating everyday cycling.

Cycle to Work Day is an opportunity for all of us to get in the saddle and experience the benefits. From boosting wellbeing to better health and improved finances; cycling offers it all. It doesn’t matter how far or fast you cycle, or whether they’re new to the saddle or an existing rider –everyone can get involved.

As well as being able to increase your levels of physical activity, once you have your bike, choosing to cycle rather than drive or take public transport can save you money as well as help the environment. With all the benefits of outdoors physical activity, regular cycling can reduce the risk of a number of serious illnesses such as Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and Stroke.

It can also boost your mood, improving the symptoms of some mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. Cycling can also help you maintain a healthy weight. Cycling is a low-impact exercise, meaning it’s easier on your joints compared to high-impact-aerobic activities like running.

If you don’t have a bike don’t worry, and if Cycle to Work Day doesn’t sound like it is for you, why not grab one of the bikes from the Cycle Centre and go for a ride around Witton Park.

This is free of charge and you can explore the park and keep active. Please contact Anthony Carr Anthony.Carr@BLACKBURN.GOV.UK or Nick Burton Nick.Burton@blackburn.gov.uk to arrange picking up a bike.
