Northern Rail Fare and Product Changes for 2017

January Fare and Product Changes to Northern Rail

Following the announcement by Rail Delivery Group (RDG) regarding annual rail industry fare rises, the attached information highlights how this affects the Northern network.

The attached documents identify the fares and product changes affecting Cumbria, Lancashire and Gt Manchester area – to be applied from 2nd January 2017.

The top level fare changes are highlighted below:

  • Northern nationally regulated fares have increased by no more than 1.9%, based on July 2016 RPI – this relates to anytime day returns, off-peak returns, season tickets and some anytime day singles.

  • Northern priced fares will rise by an average of 2.2% (national average rise is 2.3% – as per the RDG announcement).

  • For Lancashire  Northern fares will remain comparatively low and some single fares will reduce slightly. However some may rise by no more than 50p to bring pricing in the area in line with the rest of the Northern network. A positive move is the introduction of some advanced purchase products (Blackburn – York service). These will also be able to be purchased 15 minutes before the train departs from the Northern app.
