Have your say on healthy streets for BwD

Together we can improve air quality and reduce congestion in our borough

To help BwD Council design healthy streets for our neighbourhoods there are a number of surveys ongoing that you contribute to. By sharing your local knowledge of our roads and streets, considering all road users, and thinking about how we can all increase our active travel, together we can improve air quality and reduce congestion for everyone in our beautiful borough.

Blackburn with Darwen’s Assistant Executive Member for Growth and Development, Cllr Zainab Rawat said:

“This is a great way to have a conversation about safer roads for our borough, for all road users. The surveys are an effective and important way for local people to highlight areas of concern and to spot opportunities where we can improve.”

Safer Roads – ends October 25, 2021

This survey is designed to understand the views of residents in order to inform its new safer roads strategy. This strategy will lay out priorities and plans to help improve safety on our roads. This includes safety of people walking and cycling, vehicle drivers and all other road users.

Blackburn with Darwen’s Executive Member for Growth and Development, Cllr Phil Riley said:

“The council is committed to enabling constructive conversation about our highways and public transport for the borough. The annual NHT survey is an effective way for local people to help us identify areas of best practice, areas of concern and to spot local trends. This is about understanding resident’s views better and working together to deliver the most satisfactory yet efficient outcomes for our local communities. Please take part in the survey.”

NHT surveys – annual, multiple categories

Every year we ask our residents for their views on the borough’s highways and transport services. These surveys give you the opportunity to rate services you use. The scores will help the council identify what is important to you and we can make improvements. There are seven different surveys including; accessibility, business users, highways maintenance, public transport, road safety, tackling congestion and walking & cycling. The surveys are completely anonymous and only take a few minutes to complete. You don’t need to complete them all, just click on the ones which affect you.

Walking & Cycling Consultation – ongoing, interactive

The Council is on a mission to improve shared infrastructure to enable more residents to choose active travel. With the hope of making walking and cycling the first and easiest choice for short journeys, we can enable residents and commuters to benefit from reduced congestion, increased health and wellbeing, and assist delivering BwD Climate Emergency targets.

We are calling on all residents – and those who travel through the borough – to provide your ideas, comments and concerns on the use of our existing network, and to propose new schemes/ improvements. We are currently working towards the development of a walking and cycling infrastructure plan, with a view to highlight where we could improve walking and cycling connectivity. Your ideas, comments and concerns will help with this development. We also envisage to use this platform to assess on any proposed schemes put forward through consultation.

The interactive map allows you to pinpoint exactly the areas you’d like to offer feedback and ideas about.
