Access to employment opportunities

CONNECT for Communities includes a scheme to help people access work or training, using sustainable transport: walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing.

A Communities Co-ordinator works with people who are unemployed or on training courses to give them advice on the quickest and cheapest way to travel to interviews, training courses or a new place of work.

Weekly travel surgeries are held in order to assist those who are unemployed with bespoke personal journey plans, promotion of all sustainable modes of transport and in some cases, travel cost assistance for those attending interviews, work trials, work placements, training courses or gaining employment. Links have been forged between training providers and businesses to highlight available opportunities.

Working in partnership with several organisations and agencies that assist residents who are looking for employment. We directly assist clients into employment, training opportunities, interviews, apprenticeships or work placements through providing travel passes, many of whom would not have been able to attend otherwise. These clients are referred by agencies such as:

Bootstrap Enterprises

Council work clubs

Job Centre Plus

The Prince’s Trust

Connexions

The Foyer

Training 2000

Pro Direct

DAES

Fast4WD

Probation Service

Action for Children
