Active Travel Funding
The Active Travel Fund aims to create a new era for cycling and walking, with Government announcing a £2 billion package in May 2020
In light of the covid-19 pandemic, Government back in May 2020 announced a £2 billion package to create a new era for cycling and walking. Within weeks the first stage of this investment (£250m) was launched names the Active Travel Fund.
Since this announcement Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council have been successful in receiving two rounds of funding to support pop-up and more permanent segregated cycling and walking lanes. We have recently received our second round of funding and are currently drawing plans to develop a segregated cycle lane in North Blackburn. The scheme will look to improve links to the already established Weavers Wheel.
The scheme is currently in its infancy however, we do plan to open consultation with residents, businesses and others in advance of scheme development. A copy of the published CONSULTATION PLAN is now available. More information about the consultation process can be found on our consultation page.
