As part of a wider effort for improving road safety for the borough the BwD Council community safety team visit schools to help children understand how to be safe while out and about.
Blackburn with Darwen’s Community Safety Officer Andy Duxbury said:
“This month our Community Safety Team, working in partnership with the Neighbourhood Policing Teams, were at a large Youth Action summer holiday event at St Silas’s Primary School.
“I managed to deliver six sessions with five to seven year olds, presenting ‘The Journey – getting to school safely’ activity booklets, which the children enjoyed and fully engaged with.
“I got through as much of the books as I could in the 20 minute sessions and asked the children to take them home to complete with guardians or older family members. By the end of the day I had been in sessions with almost a hundred children – and happy to say, most took the safety books home with them.
“It was really nice to see the children getting fully involved and I was able to give various reflective and fluorescent goodies to them too.”
